Our Story

With over 30 years experience in the metal fabrication industry and over 13 years as a member of Victoria’s local Blacksmith Association, Glenn Closson is truly a master craftsman.

Glenn’s interest in metal began at a very young age when he and his friends built sculptures from metal objects. This led to enrollment in the welding program for three years at high school in Calgary, where his interest in metal fabrication and welding started to take off. To further his education and hon his skills in the metal trades he took the Welding Engineering Technology program at S.A.I.T. (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology). Glenn graduated with a technology degree as well as a C.S.A. (Canadian Standards Association) Welding Inspection Certificate in 1982.

In 1984 Glenn moved to beautiful Victoria where he worked as a welder/fabricator for a couple of local companies. He then complimented his qualifications in 1992, with a Journeyman Fabricator Certificate from BCIT and a British Columbia Ironworker Qualification Degree.

Since joining the Vancouver Island Blacksmith Association (V.I.B.A.) thirteen years ago, Glenn has attended several Canadian and A.B.A.N.A (Artist Blacksmith Association of North America) Blacksmithing Conferences, participating in workshops and demonstrations by renowned international Blacksmiths and Metal Artists.

Over the years, Glenn has worked on a wide variety of metal installations, incorporating traditional, modern, and contemporary design elements and adding his own unique flavour to his custom work.
